Summary: I loved this one!!!
Comment: This is a wonderful and funny tale of an obsessed and hilarious character who has a unique view of the world. I think I laughed out loud more during this one than I have in a while. And there were quite a few unforgetable scenes I just loved (like the Vera Wang sale).
The thing about "Slim Chance" is that on the surface it seems like stereotypical chick lit, but it's actually a highly original novel, mainly because of the great words and thoughts of main character Evelyn. This book was way worth reading, and I can't wait for the sequel, or at least another one by Rose. I also think this tale would be great as a movie. Note to Red Dress INk: keep 'em coming!

Summary: entertaining because the 'heroine' is so terrible!
Comment: Evelyn just got engaged to long-time boyfriend Bruce in front of her whole office at Kendra White cosmetics and promptly goes to the bathroom to throw up in happiness. From there on, we visit Evie's problems with her mother and grandmother (her father long dead, more on that story unfolds throughout the novel) -- and her problems with herself -- as she morphs into a Bridezilla.
After she and best friend Morgan run through a Vera Wang discount bridal sale, Eveie finds the perfect dress. All the dresses at this sale are size 8, and Evie vows to be a size 8. She starts training with Jade -- a very sexy and unprofessional personal trainer -- and she recognizes she is endangering her health and her relationship with Bruce and she just does not care.
It is hard to care for Evie, but luckily the author does not really want you to. Instead, it seems she wants you to learn from her, even if Evie might not learn anything for herself before it's too late. Therein lies the beauty of this book and what makes it so entertaining.

Comment: Jackie Rose's "Slim Chance" deals with Evie who was recently engaged after her boyfriend, Bruce proposed to her at work. Her immediate task was to find herself a dress for her wedding. With her best friend Morgan, she found a Vera Wang dress at a huge discount. The catch is that the dress is a size eight and Evie is a size twelve. Determined to wear the dress, Evie soon joined a fitness club, and she has her personal trainer, a gorgeous hunk named Jade. Soon, Evie was working out nearly every day and starving herself. Evie became literally obsessed with losing weight and soon neglected Bruce and everything else that matters.
I like "Slim Chance" as it touches an important issue that haunts brides to be and women in general - weight loss. Jackie Rose's story is not an exaggeration as some women do go through what Evie did. In addition, the story flows well and there are definitely funny moments. Evie is not your typical likeable chick-lit heroine. In fact, she's the opposite. She's self-centered, obsessive, selfish and at times neurotic. But you can't help sympathizing with her especially since at the end, she realizes her mistake.
