Summary: I'd give it ZERO STARS if I could
Comment: One of the authors (Mr Armbruster) is my professor for D.E. here at ASU. Obviously I had to buy his book for his class. I have to say that he is a really nice guy! And in his class he is quite competent and helpful. I mean it too, but this text is awful! I don't understand how this monstrosity came about but he should have had nothing to do with it. For example, just try understanding whether an equation is homogeneous and/or linear given the sparse instructions and examples. This textbook has often come perilously close to taking a one-way trip through my window. JUST STAY CLEAR OF THIS BOOK IF YOU CAN. If you must use this text for a class, see if you can borrow somebody's just long enough to photocopy the assigned problems (and the sprinkling of answers they offer in the back). Then find a better text on D.E.s for actually working out the problems (though I haven't found any I can suggest yet).

Summary: Make Math Difficult 101
Comment: This is the worst math textbook I have ever seen. The paltry examples do not help the student very much. This text book is over-priced and a complete joke. If you want to be confused about differential equations then this is the book for you. As for me, I burnt my copy. I hope the professors enjoy themselves.

Summary: Comprehensive Introduction
Comment: A very comprehensive and straigth forward book for introductory purpose. The book has the rigth balance of rigorism and usefull practical examples and exerises. I certainly will recommend the book.
