Summary: Superlative ......
Comment: This is a book written with such sensitivity and honesty that even a reader with no interest in the subject matter could not fail to be enthralled by Keane's narratives.
Add to this the detailed insights into the places and personalities, the touches of humour and pathos, and the inherent reporter's cynicism combined with Keane's Irish wit, and here is a book which I at least could not put down.
A treasure, one of the most moving books I have ever read.
I have been trying to get hold of his book 'The Bondage of Fear' to complete my collection of his works.

Summary: excellent journalism with heart
Comment: This book is about to reach for your heart. I started reading it because i'm interested in the history of South Africa, but the book is about much more, not only literally. Next to that it handles subjects like the authors experiences in Burma, South Africa, Rwanda and even in his homeland Ireland, it handles the personal feelings and personal experiences of the author. He manages to describe the most important events in his life thus far with a journalistic as well as a personal touch. He also writes about his youth, the birth of his son and his parents. Altogether this book lights a journalists life in a moving, eyeopening way. I recomment this for reading, it's not really hard to read or heavy but gives you a good extra baggage along the way, and touches you.
