Comment: Excellent UNIX introduction of commands, file system, shells, and vi, and 200 page chapter on introduction to programming.
I especially like the man pages that appear at the end of many chapters and the vi Quick Reference card.

Summary: Tons of info!
Comment: I bought "UNIX User's Handbook" Second Edition to get an intro to UNIX. I got a lot more than UNIX. The book covered all of the UNIX I wanted to know such as commands, shell, and vi, and also has a section on programming that covered such topics as C, C++, and Java. The book also has a vi card I tore out and a ton of man pages right in the book. There's a lot in here including a Windows interoperability section I haven't even read yet. Get this book if you want a lot of information in one place - it's a huge book.

Comment: Let me pay my respects to this beautiful beautiful book. There are a lot of pages, but the print is big and 90% of it is examples.
The book has tremendous scope - make this your first Unix book,
it is all you really need.
I will certainly target this author, when I move onto sys admin.
