Summary: A must for all SQL SERVER DBAs!!!
Comment: The book is extremely informative with respect to the SQL Server DBA role as a whole, not just the technology aspect of it.
The included CDROM is quite unique and different from many technical books, it is actually useful!! It contains DBA support documents in a template format that are extrodinarily productive and informative. I was able to create my SQL Server DBA shop operations manual from this CD.
The SQL Server DBA needs to be a well rounded individual in todays corporate environment, having not only the technical skills but also effective business processing, data modeling, technical writing, and communication skills. The book goes over all these.
I have bought a copy for each of my DBAs in the shop and we are setting up training sessions from the book.
I recommend this book to all DBAs, managers, tech leads and any one else who wants a complete definition of the SQL Server DBA role.

Summary: Book was well written. Book and CDROM are VERY USEFUL!!
Comment: Book was well written and contains many valuable sections that define a SQL Server DBA role in a detailed manner. The book contains many additional and crucial chapters not found in a typical SQL Server DBA book (i.e. technical writing, data modeling, Oracle and Sybase Migrations) that are needed to be a well-rounded DBA. The included CDROM is awesome!! It contains many sample scripts and support document templates that can be used every day on the job. It is a CDROM that I carry with me at all times.
I would strongly recommend buying this book!! Great job!!

Summary: Understand the DBA role entirely!!
Comment: This book was recommended to me from my new DBA manager. I have been a DBA for 3 years now and had no idea of what the complete SQL Server DBA role encompassed. Well, now I do! This book is very explanatory on the different areas that should be understood and what a DBA should be proficient in to be completely well-rounded in the DBA role. I am pursuing some additional training due to the tips given in this book and have already seen results in what I can offer as a DBA. My manager is happy and so am I!
I recommend this book very highly!!
