Summary: Fantastic book!
Comment: This is Georgia Byng's first novel and I am extremely impressed with it. The writing, characters, plot, and setting all come together to create a fabulous tale about an orphan girl's startling discovery that would change her world forever.
Molly Moon was just another orphan living at Hardwick House. She was always being picked on by the other kids and was tormented by the headmaster, Ms. Adderstone. Molly only had one friend and would often spend her time being punished for things like taking a bath with too much water or being bullied by Hazel Hackersky. To make matters worse, her best friend Rocky was adopted from the orphanage and taken to New York with a new family.
But one day, Molly's bad luck changes for the better. She discovers a mysterious old book entitled "Hypnotism," written by a hypnosist expert. Molly first tested it out by hypnotizing the orphnage's dog, Petula, and discovered she was a natural. She even won two thousand pounds at a local talent show and decided to put her earnings to use. After hyptotizing both Miss Adderstone and the orphanage's cook into liking her, Molly decides to go to New York and try to find Rocky. But before you can say "hypnotism," Molly is staying at the most expensive hotel in New York City and earning forty-thousand dollars a month by being the star of a hit Broadway musical. But that's not all- a stranger determined to get the book is watching Molly and plotting a plan to get that book...
This is an excellent book for ages 8-12. It's mixed with humor, sadness, and happiness all at the same time. Readers will be cheering for the impressible Molly, who has the adventure of her life in this book.

Summary: Good as the "Moon"
Comment: Georgia Byng's debut novel, "Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism," is sure to delight the young and old alike.
Molly Moon is part Eloise, part Little Orphan Annie. She lives at an orphanage in Great Britain under the watchful gaze of a cold woman who does not particularly like children. Then Molly discovers a book on hypnotism at the library, and her world goes from dull to wow. She has an amazing knack for hypnotizing people and animals like, winning over the heart of audiences and the loveable pup Petunia the pug. When Molly's best friend Rocky is adopted and taken to the USA, she goes halfway around the world to find him, and these adventures continue when her hypnotic powers catch the eye of a crook.
This novel is fast-paced and travels from the United Kingdom to the United States and back again. The book has plenty of in-jokes and cool slang from both countries, not to mention a dog-napping, a dastardly villain, a bank robbery, a Broadway show and more! If you enjoyed this book, pick up the sequel "Molly Moon Stops the World" for even more adventures with Molly and her friends.

Summary: Nice story, not a good Read Aloud book.
Comment: I enjoyed the story of Molly Moon, engaging premise, extremely imaginative. I felt it bogged down somewhat in the middle/towards the end, but my child loved it. I read this aloud, and therein lies my greatest complaint. While it's a good story, it is a difficult book to read aloud. The language, though descriptive, does not flow the way a good read aloud story needs to. I also felt it was a little complicated to follow in that format. While I am interested in knowing what happens in the sequel, the next Molly Moon she will read to herself.
