Summary: "Make for Me a memory, and I shall dwell among them."
Comment: Viewing these large, breathtaking photographs of churches built to praise God and edify the people with their magnificent architectural beauty and wonder, I am reminded of King Solomon's honor of building God's Holy Temple. He completed it by raising up a labor force of thousands in seven years. Made from the cedars of Lebanon cut by the skilled hands of the Sidonians and large, costly hewn stones for the foundation, "The whole temple he overlaid with gold until he finished all the temple; also he overlaid with gold the entire altar that was by the inner sanctuary." (I Kings 6:22.) This, and the churches included in Dupre's awesome collection, is the way a church SHOULD be made!
I'm so ecstatic to have found this gorgeous book because it has touched my heart and soul with a desire to worship God in His Holy Temple. It is my goal in the upcoming new year to find a church to worship God along with my family He has blessed me with, and be edified together along with the fellow members of believers. Also, I have a deep desire to travel in my lifetime and hope to actually visit as many of these churches as possible! The church building is vital, uniting the congregation together into the proper mindset for worship. John 4:23-24. Yet we remember that Jesus abides in our hearts eternal so we can worship Him anywhere, anytime.
Thank you Judith Dupre for your awesome, edifying work, all the gifted architects AND photographers, the worshippers, as well as Mario Botta for your interview. (Review title quote from page six, taken from Exodus 25:8.) God bless you worshippers everywhere. Go with God and Soar in o8E!

Summary: Would give it a 10!
Comment: This is a superb, very large (in both scope and physical size) work that covers the history, architecture, and social aspects of major world churches. From small chapels to huge cathdrals, this book is an explosion of color and information. Especially helpful are the "data-lines" at the bottom of each church's section, giving an 'at-a-glance' view of designer, years constructed, congregation/denomination served, etc. This book is worth the money for the lavish pictures alone. If sacred buildings call to you, then this book is for you. You'll really enjoy it.

Summary: Churches by Judith Dupre and Mario Botta
Comment: Judith Dupre's book Churches is a truly wonderful combination of art, photography, history, scholarship and a style of writing which inspires a respectful "thank you" to this gifted author. At first glance, the format and the gorgeous photography grip the reader, but it is the text which carried this book to the highest level. While architecture supports the art work displayed here, her theme is both personal and universal in the connection with every viewer for the purpose of knowing some of the most meaningful strucures ever built. Her dry wit makes each chapter an expedition of pleasure and discovery. This is a book to treasure.
